At the top Schary writes, “To Reverend Forwood on the occasion of his 100th birthday—1977. This is the exact copy of the first page of the script I originally wrote for Boys Town.” Script portion reads, in part: “The name of Father Flanagan isn’t familiar to most of you, but it is known to most boys lost and afraid of the world…His story is one of unswerving loyalty; magnificent perseverance and glowing idealism. This is Father Flanagan’s story, his picture and it is dedicated to his work, which is real, vibrant and pulsing with hope, renewed faith and courage.” At the bottom, Schary adds a short handwritten letter of congratulations.
